Invictus Games Racing Launches at Autosport International Show (11 Jan 18)
There was standing room only as the world’s media lined up to try and get a first glimpse of the Jaguar F-Type SVR GT4 supercar and the Invictus Games Racing drivers.
Sky Sports’ Formula 1 presenter Natalie Pinkham hosted the show and introduced the two teams – for Car 22 and Car 44 - explaining how our unique team works. Natalie told fans that professional driver Jason Wolfe will mentor Ben Norfolk and Basil Rawlinson in Car 22, with Matthew George doing the same for Steve McCulley and Paul Vice in Car 44.
The launch was attended by global television crews, national UK newspapers, social media influencers, British Forces TV and radio stations – generating impressive mainstream PR coverage.
The 'team behind the team' were all present on the day including Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations engineers that made the car, David Appleby Engineering (who will be running the race team), Mission Motorsport (the forces’ motorsport charity), the Invictus Games Foundation and James Holder (co-founder of Superdry®), the man behind the inspiration and the project.
Holder explained his plans for the forthcoming season and said that the vision is to involve as many of the Invictus family with IGR as possible, whether as engineers in the pit lane or as guests at 'The Event' - a unique experience day on 7 June 2018 at Silverstone.
The drivers will spend the next few weeks of 2018 training ahead of the first British GT Championship race over the Bank Holiday Easter Weekend 30 March - 2 April 2018 at Oulton Park.
